SKINNER NURSERIES PALM BEACH HOLDS CERTIFICATION FIELD DAY

Palm Beach, Florida – On February 20th, Skinner Nurseries’ Palm Beach distribution center, in conjunction with the Green Industry Institute, held their first Landscaping Field Day offering continuing education credit for FNGA and ISA members. Attended by 32 individuals, the event was an enjoyable success.

Some of the topics covered were plant identification, tree planting and guying, plan layout and placement, and grading and drainage. The event was not only informative but also fun. Participants were divided into groups competing against one another. FNGA and Green Industries’ staff organized a station setup for each topic and solicited certified judges for the stations. Events like Plant Jeopardy and a Plant Scavenger Hunt made topics such as plant identification a learning challenge. Prizes were awarded for the best performance at each station and a grand prize was awarded at the end. In addition, Bobcat of Palm Beach and Schumacker GMC had equipment and trucks on display and held drawings for a free month’s equipment rental and a Mike Schmidt autographed baseball. The Grand Prize for the overall event was a paid admission to the Lawn and Landscape School of Management Seminar being held in March and one night’s hotel accommodation. With opportunities to earn continuing education credit in this field often few and far between, the event was greatly appreciated by the attendees.
