SKINNER NURSERIES EXPANDS TO MARYLAND
Centreville, Maryland – Skinner Nurseries, the leading supplier of green goods in the South, has announced the acquisition of its newest branch located at 710 Hayden Road in Centreville, Maryland. The new center greatly increases Skinner Nurseries servicing capabilities in the mid-Atlantic region and is part of Skinner’s strategy to expand further north.
The Center, which was formerly Bridgetown Farms, Inc., will be managed by its prior owner, Craig Higgs. Craig, who has a B.S. degree in Agricultural Business from Delaware Valley College, is excited about this new venture. “As a result of this acquisition, we will be able to deliver a wider range of products directly to customers’ job sites. With vastly enhanced delivery capabilities for the Baltimore – Washington metro area, my team will be concentrating on customer service,” stated Craig Higgs, Branch Manager. The center will operate with 5 employees at the branch and 2 outside sales representatives selling primarily to builders, developers, and landscapers.
The center’s new expanded inventory will include a wide range of material from annual color, shrubs, and large trees to a full line of hardlines, including mulch and soil. With 15 other distribution centers strategically located across the Sunbelt and 2 growing facilities, this new center will have access to an extensive network of sources to locate and deliver plant material quickly. “The Skinner philosophy is to promote one stop shopping making life easier for our customers. The Maryland center which is centrally located will be able to service the growing Baltimore – Washington area and save customers the expense of maintaining holding yards for plant material,” stated Bud Eskola, Vice President of Skinner Nurseries.
