Skinner Nurseries Surpasses Quality Standards by Joining the Roots Plus Growers Association of Florida
Bunnell, Florida May 15, 2001 - Skinner Nurseries, the South's largest supplier/grower of green goods, has taken steps to guarantee superior quality plant materials to the landscape community by joining the Roots Plus Field Growers Association of Florida. By joining Roots Plus, Skinner Nurseries gives landscape professionals the security of knowing that field grown trees planted on the job site are cured (roots growing through the burlap) and have the greatest opportunity to thrive.
For a tree to be Roots Plus Certified they must be root pruned and held at the nursery until new roots are visible on the outside of the burlap. The curing process creates a healthy root system that increases the success rate of field grown trees once they are incorporated into a landscape. The Roots Plus Growers are self-monitored and hold themselves accountable to higher standards than other growers. This process adds time and labor to the growing process, but the value to the customer is well worth the effort.
"I feel a lot better knowing that the B&B trees from Skinner Nurseries are cured before they get to the job site. It makes a big difference in the survival rate of the trees once they are properly cured. All B&B trees grown at Skinner Nurseries are Root Plus Certified," said Mark Jones, production manager of Skinner Nurseries' Flagler location.
Skinner Nurseries is committed to helping solve the problems faced by companies in the landscape industry. By certifying that all field grown trees are properly cured, Skinner Nurseries allows landscape professionals have confidence in the trees they put on a job site and reduce the cost of replacing trees.
