Skinner Nurseries Survives Hurricane Katrina
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – After withstanding torrential rainfall and wind gusts up to 90 mph generated by Hurricane Katrina on Thursday, Skinner Nurseries Palm Beach location in south Florida was back open for business today. Katrina’s original track had it making landfall between Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, but instead took a sharp left turn and made landfall approximately 60 miles south of the branch. The branch sustained no damage, flooding nor loss of material, as the staff had completely prepared for a more severe outcome.
“We prepared for the worst, but luckily we avoided the major thrust of the storm. Some had speculated this was a ‘weak’ storm, but our team did not take this threat lightly and diligently prepared the branch. I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,” stated John Cook, Palm Beach Branch Manager.
In 2004, Florida was struck by four major hurricanes in a six-week period. In all instances, Skinner Nurseries was open the next business day following the storm.
Skinner Nurseries provides a wide range of plant material from annual color, shrubs, large trees, and palms to a full line of hardlines, including mulch and soil. Skinner Nurseries is the leading supplier of green goods in the South with 21 distribution centers and 2 farms strategically located throughout the southeast.
